LATE LOCALS.

Users of electric current are notified tha tour rent will be cut off to-morrow (Good Friday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Messrs Orr Bros notify an excursion to Lake Kanieri on Easter Monday leaving town at 10 a.m. Fares 6s. Book early at Garage, Wharf Street. The funeral of the late Mrs Walker of Weld Street took place yesterday afternoon and was attended by a. large I circle of friends. The Rev. P. B. Fraser conducted the services at tlie residence and the graveside. A private message received at Blue Spur to-day conveyed the sad news of the death of Mr Richard. Gill, of tlie Adelaide Post Office. Deceased spent about two years in this district, being employed at the Three Mile, and married Miss Mary Brown, daughter of the late Mr R. M. Brown of Blue Spur. A widow and three young children are left. Deceased was about 35 years of age.

Crossing the Big Totara bridge, Westport, on Tuesday, Mr Price had one of a mob of cattle destroyed. It appears that he was bringing the mob through from Brighton to Westport anil they were well strung out over the bridge. When about three parts across the first ones took fright anil turned liai'k on to the others, causing a crowding near the centre of the bridge. Tlie rail gave way on one side and three of them were precipitated into the river bed, one being so injured that it had to ho destroyed. The other two completed the journey to Westport.

At Nelson last Thursday evening, Mr It. Barlow’s bay horse Prodigal met with injuries which rendered it necessary to shoot him. Along with Lei tli fie Id he was being walked to the Breakwater preparatory to being shipped by the s.s. Waimea to Westport, when Prodigal was struck by a tram car. One hind leg was badly fractured, in fact, almost severed, and a front leg badly knocked about. Prodigal’s breeding was Danube or Sutnla —Lady Wayward 11. He was purchased by Mr Barlow two years ago for 200 guineas. The horse was, at the time, held under lease by Mr George Powell who landed Leith field by the Ngakuta at Greymouth yesterday.
