The Westland Licensing Committee met in Committee this morning at 10 o’clock Present—Messrs W. M.eldrum, S.M. (Chairman), C. J. Nightingale, •A. and F. McGregor. Mr and Mrs T. Seddon passed north yesterday afternoon from their southern trip, and are now taking np their residence in Cowper Street, Greymouth. They report a very enjoyable trip over the Haast Pass and up the Coast. The first rain of the whole trip was encountered on Tuesday afternoon, otherwise the weather had been splendid. Crossing the Pass the tempeiature was that of mid-summer. Everywhere the visitors had a most cordial welcome. At Hari Han on Tuesday night, despite the downpour, the residents rolled up in force and Mr and Mrs Seddon were entertained at a social. Mr J. Hewer presided and the evening passed off very enjoy ably. Mi Saddon will visit Hokitika again next week. While passing through South Westland lie took the opportunity of looking into local requirements, and various matters will have his immediate utention. At Dunedin before coming to the Coast lie met Mr Coates on bis arrival from the district, and gleaned that the Hon Minister was bent on doing all he could to help the settlers in the southern district. Mr Seddon will now bring several matters under, the direction of Mr Coates.
