GERMANY REJECTS DEMANDS

LONDON, April ICA The Berlin correspondent of the “Daily News” states that the principal points of the German reply to) the Allied reparation demands are:— (1) Rejection of the demand to raise £46,999,090 by new taxation. (2) Rejection of the demand for an investigation of Germany’s capacity to pay on the basis of the Peace Treaty terms. j (3) Germany is unable to pay cash i without a foreign loan. (4) The reply stresses the grave economic and social conditions provoked by rising prices and inadequate wages. (5) Germany is prepared to submit a statement of her financial and economic situation. The reply emphasises that foreign money is not available during 1922, that famine confronts the population, and insists that only through a foreign loan can reparations be payable.
MINERAL CONTRACT. LONDON, April 10. Mr Hilton Young, replying to a ques tion in the House of Commons, said the British Government was under a contract to supply the National Smelt-' ‘ ing Corporation with 45,000 tons of Australian concentrates yearly for ten years, ah from January Ist 1918, on the same . terms and conditions as ithose under which the Board of Trade acquired same. - ■
