SOUTHLAND RACES. INVERCARGILL, April 7. The autumn meeting of the Southland Racing Club opened to-day. There was a slight drizzle in the morning which cleared and the weather was fine for the races. The steeple provided an exceptional race, three running off, while all the others fell. The winner was remounted by I. Tilson. Wicklow’s rider remounted again and Gletiisla finished under Dowd. No others finished. At one stage of the race all the horses were out of action. Humphreys sustained concussion and was conveyed to tlie Hospital. The principal event was a good race between the placed horses and the winner had something in hand. The tote investment totalled £14,644 l()s as against last year £20,951.
