FOOTBALL
The Sub-Union met at 8 p.m. at Mclntosh’s Glubrooms. Present: Messrs F. McGregor (President), T. Gillooly, J. J. Breeze, D. R. Dowell, A. Cutbush, M. Houston, J. Roberts, G. Adamson, J. Stafford, A. Seebeck, G. Shaw, H. McMannaway and C. Sellers (Vice President). The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved, and a quantity of formal inward correspondence was read and received. Entries were received for the competitions as under:— • Seniors.—Kiwis, Excelsiors, Han Hari, Kokatahi. Ross. Kumara, Diggers, Pirates. Juniors.—Arahura, Kiwi, Pirates, Excelsiors, Kokatahi, and Hari Hari. J. Tainui and P. Muir wrote asking to he classified as juniors. Mr Stafford supported, the main reason being that they wished to coach the younger players. The request was granted. The Referees Association reported per Mr Cutbush. having met and resolved to carry on as last year. Mr Houston stilted the Association would not he dictated to by the Union. The rules provided for objections to he made by the clubs. It was resolved that the recommendations of the Referees’ Association when approved by tbe Union, must be filial. Afi- Shaw said he did not know how liis Club would accept the decision. In reply to Air Adamson, if was stated if a team refused to play under a- referee selected they would lose the match by default. It was resolved that a demonstration was being held at Reefton on the 29th and would interfere with the opening fixtures. The motion to open the fixtures on the 29th was rescinded and the opening fixed for Saturday, May 6th. Tt was resolved that the competitions consist of two rounds, all finals to be played at Hokitika. ■ Tt was resolved that country gate lhoney be divided between the two teams and that the town gates he taken by the Union. It was resolved that the Fixtures Committee consist of a; delegate from each Club, the following being appointed.—Messrs McGregor, Houston. Gillooly. Adamson. Seebeck. Stafford, Shaw, McMannaway -and Roberts.
Ft was resolved that oil subscriptions to the Union he paid in by next Wednesday. tbe Fixtures Committee to meet on the following night (Thursday!. at 7.30 p.m. Tbe meeting then terminated.
RUGBY FOOTBALL. SYDNEY. April 4. Tbe animal meeting of the Rugby Union disclosed healthy prospects. The hone was expressed that a Maori team would visit Australia in the ensuing season. Nine flubs are participating in the first grade (seven district, one university and one old boys club). Two innovations were adopted, the kick into touch rule used in Auckland and appointment of timekeepers to relieve the referee of responsibility.
