WAIMEA WATER RACE
PROPOSAL TO FORM BOARD
A meeting was held yesterday of representatives of users of the Government water races, including Linklater and party, Havill Bros, Callaghans Sluicing Company and Blackmun and party (users of Waimea water race), McLaughlin and party (Kumara), and Lawrence and party (Larrikins). Mr W. Blackmun was voted to the chair, and stated that he had been given to understand by the Minister of Mines that the Government would consider any reasonable proposition for the working of the water races. After discussion Mr E. B. Mabin moved that a Water Board be formed to take over the Waimea water race. Seconded by Mr Langford and carried.
Mr Langford moved that the Board consist of a Government nominee and representatives from each party using water from the race, Seconded by Mr Biackmuii and carried.
Mr Langford riioved that the Minis* ter of Miiies be informed that tiie proposed Board would be prepared to relieve the Government of the cost of upkeep of the race, and to. ask for its approval and the terms on which the Government would he prepared to allow the Board to take over the race. Seconded by Mr Wild and carried. It was resolved to call another meeting on .receipt of a reply from the Minister of Mines. The meeting then adjourned.
