The attack on London theatre supper hours has failed. Mr George Edwardes, Chairm-m of the St. James and St Anne’s . Licensing Sessions, (which control Piccadilly and other parts of the West End of Loudon), announced a,t the meeting yesterday that the jusiccs had decided to make no (alteration in the hours during which licensed ‘premises would he open and closed for the ensuing 12 months. The present hours are: Week days, 11;,30 'a,.m. to 3 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sundays, noon to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 ip.m.
An application was made on behalf of the Bishop of London that the question be reconsidered, if not at this session, then at an early date to he named by the justices. The Chairman replied that the justices were unanimous on the question and nothing the applicant might have to say would alter that decision. "When Air Edmund Barnes, chairman of the St Pancras Licensing Sessions, announced that week-day hours would remain as at present—namely 11 to 3 and 5 to 10. but that Sunday evening hours would be altered from 6 to 9 to 7 to 10—he was loudly cheered. There is to ho no change at East Haim, Avhere the hours are: Weekdays, 11.30 n.m. to 3 p.m.; and 5.3-0 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Sundays, 12.30 p.m. tP 2.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The attendance of “temperance” advocates was so great that many could not enter the court. Wimbledon justices refused to change the hours on week-days (closing at 10 p.m.), but altered those for Sunday night from 6 to 9 to 7 to 10.
