Air and Mrs T. McGuire and family, who have been residents of Riinii for ihe past six years, are leaving on Thursday to reside at Brunner in the future. Since they have resided at Rimu they have made hosts ol friends and it is with regret that Rimu is losing them. It will he Brunner’s gain and |{mill's loss. Air .McGuire and his partners have erected a new sawmill at Kaimata and everyone wishes them success in their venture.
I At the Public Hall, Rimu, on .Monday j evening, the euchre tournament and | dance in aid of the Rmiu Literary I"1 s.itute, passed off very suecesslull.v in j spite of the inclement night. There was j a large attendance at the euchre. The j prize winners were Aliss Alary O’Neill, J and Airs 1). Ryan, Messrs W. O’Connor | and J'as. Woolhouse. Air A. Trunin ; (President) expressed thanks to Close j present for their patronage and assistj ame ami stated another similar gatherping would he held at a Intel date. A dance followed and was kept going till two o’clock, Mr Jas. Spence acting as M.C.
The residents of the Okuru district had the pleasure last night ol teudeiing a social to Mr and Mrs T. E. ) ■ Seddon, wlu> crossed the H'aast Pass IVom Otago into South Westland on Saturday." The was a splendid success.' Mr j'.Cuttance made the speech of welcome, and Air P. Nolan was master of ceremonies and had charge of the social proceedings. Songs and recitations were rendered by Messrs J. Cowan, E. Scott, A. Nolan, Seddon, Cuttance and P. Nolan. The musid was supplied by Messrs A. and J. Co wan and Geo. Harris. The gathering was a very jolty one, and a most cordial greeting was tendered Airs Seddon on her first visit to the far south. The party will he travelling north to-morrow, making Taupirikaka the first stage. Mr Thomas ■Noh’u will lie their guide on the north trip to the AVaiho Gorge.
