OPOSSUMS AND native game
WELLINGTON, March 30
Th c opossum is proving a source of revenue to some of the acclimatisation societies. In all, £BB3 accrues to the various societies, this sum being twothird of thc net revenue from fees, etc., received in respect to the taking of opossums. Of this amount Otago gets £495, Wellington £253, and Southland £lOl. The other districts got only very small sums. Auckland is credited with eightpence. Another source of revenue to the societies during th e current year will be the license fees imposed for shooting native game. Under the Act passed last session, no person is permitted to kill any native game during th e open season unless he is the holder of a license. The foe payable for «• license to take or kill both imported game and native game is £1; for imported game only £1; and, for native game only 10s. It is also enacted that no person shall kill or destroy any imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any imported game, or native game with any automatic or auto-loading gun.
