AN INQUEST.

WELLINGTON, March 27. The verdict nt the inquest on the death of EVn Sims was that death was due to general peritonitis, following septic premature labour. FOUND DBOWNED. FOXTON. March An adjourned inquest touching the body of an unknown man found above the high water mark about three quarters of a mile from the river, was held this afternoon. The police stated they were unable to find any clue to the identity, and they presumed the body bad been washed in from the sea. The clothes had the mark of a Christchurch tailor, and the initials “J.J.A.” w er» on deceased’s linen collar. A verdict of found drowned was returned.

YABSITY APPOINTMENT. CHTUSTCHUBCH, March 27. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College have decided to offer the position of Professor in Chemistry (rendered vacant by the resignation of Dr. W. P. Evans’) to Dr. H. G. Denham, D.S.C. of Capetown University. Dr Denham is a son of Mr Edward Denham, of Snmner, and was educated in Christchurch Boys High School. He is a graduate of Canterbury college, where he obtained his M.A. degree in ■1905 and his M.S.C. in 1906. Prior to accepting an appointment at Capetown University, he occupied the chair of chemistry at Brisbane University.
