CORRESPONDENCE
A CYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP
(To the Editor)
Sir.—l am informed that some comment is being passed in regard to my win in the Five Mile Australasian Cycling Championship decided at the St Patrick’s sports, Chrischitivh on the 17th inst. Evidently a mistake has occurred in some minds by confusing the two and five.mile races. In tlKi former event several competitors fell, but in the five-mile race which I won, O’Shea only fell. Certainly he was the favorite, and his fall was unfortunate, robbing the finish of mos-t of its interest, but I was in the better position at the fall, having a. good lead and little more than half a. lap to go. I was fit and well, and riding well, and with my position and condition, (to say nothing of the good machine Mr Toohey had equipped me with) I had every confidence in my ability to win. The race was a true run race, and I was very pleased to appropriate the event for the credit of the Coast. Yours etc., A. T. GEORGE. Hokitika, March 28t.h.
