CHRISTCHURCH, March 25 The wooden steamer Broxton, which has been lying idle at Lyttelton for several months, was announced yesterday afternoon to be at present under offer to the Union Company for a coal hulk. Ylesterday Captain C. McDonald, marine superintendent for the Union Company, and Mr J. Smith, superintendent engineer for the same company, were in Lyttelton, and made an extensive examination of thjc vessel with a view to purchase.

A BANKRUPT SENTENCED MASTERTON, March 25 In the Supreme Court on Saturday, Ernest Robert Ward, a carrier, of Masterton, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment without hard labour for failure to keep a proper account of his books during three years prior to his bankruptcy and for contracting debts, knowing at the time that the had no reasonable prospect of paying them —together with other debts.
