kaitangata damaged. SYDNEY, March 22
The steamer Kaitangata, en route from Newcastle to Bluff, damaged her rudder during a south west gale eastward of Gabo Island. The Canberra was proceeding to the scene but the Kaitangata sent a message that she was effecting repairs and was in no need of immediate assistance.

MELBOURNE, March 22
The Seamen’s Union lias issued a manifesto, stating that as there has been a conspiracy between Mr Hughes (Federal Premier) and the Commonwealth Line of steamers to prejudice the claims of the seamen in the Courts, and as the Seamen’s Union has failed to secure its demands by constitutional means, , owing to the unscrupulous methods employed by those referred to. I| K . Union will therefore adopt such methods as it thinks lit to secure justice for its members.

A motor mechanic who worked and lived, in the city, died of ncpfcieneinie plague. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday.
RECIPROCITY WANTED. MELBOURNE, March 23. The Hobart- Commerce Congress resolutioned urging the Federal Government to complete a reciprocity agreement with New Zealand without delay.
TRADE WITH GERMANY. (Received This Uav m 10-15 a.m.) MEBOUII-NE, March 23. Air Hughes advocating the resumption of trade with Germany, criticised Hobart Commerce Conference, which urged the postponment till January. Air Hughes stated as a result of Germany buying coarse wool, a glut was prevented and possibly made the difference of three to four million to Australia. All other parts of the world were trading with Germany. Austia|ia must have markets for primary products, and was unable to continue to sell to Germany, unless she bought from her in return.
