It will be seen from the report of the proceedings of the Westland Progress League in this issue, that matters in regard to the Westland winter school to be held in the middle of May, are advancing satisfactorily. The league last night resolved to ask the Mayor to convene a public meeting for next Monday afternoon to secure the co-opera-tion of the citizens generally. The visit will lie attended by n In rge number of persons whose stay in the town will extend over a week or ten days. To arrange accommodation and entertain the visitors in a fitting manner is considered beyond the means of the League and so it was decided to invite the citizens generally to help. The visit so far as the influx of visitors is concerned will He somewhat akin to that of the visiting firemen in times gone by. There is no doubt the accommodation of the town will be taxed to a large extent, probably its limit, and to ensure comfort and convenience to the visitors some local organisation in the matter will be necessary. During the mornings and afternoons those attending the school classes will be fully occupied, but the evenings will he mainly free, and committees for entertainment will be necessary. There will be a good deal of citizens to do. if they will help, as no doubt they will. As regards the school, which is of the greatest importance, it is to he hoped the farmers and their families will take the best advantage of the occasion and attend to receive the instruction whjieh will lie available. Tt is a unique opportunity for the people of tlie district and Westland is indebted to our Canterbury friends for taking this very practical interest in the progress and development of the place.
