The Minister of Internal Affairs advises that New Zealand is to be visited this year by a party of American naturalist? from the State University of lowa. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral has received the following information from the President of the University.—“ The Party expects to visit Fiji, arriving there about June sth 1922, and leaving for New Zealand about July 3rd, 1922, where they expect to remain about seven weeks. I write this letter to request that the authorities of the Dominion of New Zealand will kindly facilitate the scientific work of the party, which will be composed as follows: Professor C. C. Nutting, head of department of zoology, as leader; Professor R. B. Wylie head of Department of Botany; Professor A. 0. Thomas, geologist (paleontolgy being his special field); Professor Dayton Stoner, entomologist and ornitholongist; and Mr Waldo S. Glock, assistant geologist. “It is also probable that Mrs Stoner will accompany her husband. They will bring with them the necessary equipment for collecting specimens of natural history, including geological material. The party will also appreciate greatly any information you can give concerning the means of travel in New Zealand, such as maps, railroad guides, etc. They would also be glad to meet the scientific colleagues there, so far as may be convenient.” Intimation of this visit was first received in January from Professor Wylie, who is forming one of the party.
A reply has been sent welcoming the announcement of the proposed visit, and informing the President of the University that everything possible will be done to make the visit successful and pleasant. At the same time it has been pointed out that the summer months would be far more suitable for field work in New Zealand.
