An official summary of the course of events since the outbreak of the revolution on Friday, states it has been brought to an end by the quick decision (if the Government in declaring martial law, and the loyal assistance of the citizens from every 'point of the union. People of all political convictions came forward to help the Governr ent men, to put down what there is now no doubt, has been a soial revolution by Bolshevists, International Socialists and Communists. The country was saved from a terrible peril of bloodshed. The revolution has been entirely suppressed, and excepting for a few who escaped capture, all the revolutionaries have been taken prisoner. Upwards 1 of 6000 prisoners were taken. Those responsible for murder and fa* pine will have to be dealt with. Government gladly acknowledges the loyal ' assistance of the citizens and burghers jof all political convictions, who came forward to assist in restoring law and order, and sincerly hopes the country will now settle down again to peaceful conditions. Officiat troops are engaged cleaning up sectors ill the central and eastern areas. Revolutionaries arfi doing their utmost to escape and get rid of ti<hr arms. Some are making for the Free State. Although the revolution is' effectively crushed, a certain amount of sniping continues, in desperate efforts to escape the hands of the law. Operations in the eastern suburbs of Johannesburg developed into .house to house fighting. It is expected the authorities will round up the Reds in the southern suburbs hnduyi Most of the sliops were open yesterday .and all will probably be open to-day. In calling off a general strike the Industrial Federation, as distinct from the augmented executive on which various unions were represented, states had there been no disturbing influences of the government, the joint executive would have proceeded to ballot on the question of a return to work, but while the meeting was proceeding on March 6th Extremists freely exercised .revolvers and sticks in support of threats that tiffi augmented executive would not be allowed out of the room ill they had declared a general strike. .he executive succumbed to these threats and the Federation now calls if the strike; and completely repudi>!es the rebellion.
