EVICTED TENANT.
CHARGE OK FIRE RAISING
| TKKUITJ, March 10. 1 A five-roomed dwelling at Awakino Road, was completely destroyed by fire. Jt was owned by the estate of the late G. S. Otwn.v, which is now administered by the Public Trustee. The occupant, Charles Campbell, married, with seven children, had that day been evicted uni dor a distress warrant. The Brigade saved some of the furniture under 1 difficulties. During the progress of the fire, Sergeant Fearnloy overheard Camphell under the influence of liquor, mak- 1 ing violently boastful statements in connection with the outbreak, and promptly arrested him. He was fte- j manded for eight days on hail of C.l00') | on self and £SOO or two sureties of £250 each.

At the Supreme Court this morning, Matthew Muleahy who pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to a charge of sheep stealing, was sentenced to six months imprisonment. His partner, David Hyde, was admitted to probation for 12 months. Counsel for accused stated ■ Muleahy refused to disclose the name
| of the person from whom he bought the ! sheep, asserting lie had given his oath and word of honour not to divulge the
name. It was, he said, more than his word of honour, as t!*e religious element : entered largely into the matter.
SUICIDE
j WELLINGTON, March 10 I Elizabeth Gallop, a waitress, aged 28 years, succumbed to poison, evidently self administered. Deceased was at the Central Hotel and had been conversing will) a male friend when she called out that she had taken poison. She was removed to the hospital where she died. Deceased's husband, it is believed, resides in Sydenham, Christchurch.
