KING ALFONSO’S HEIR
MADRID, Dec. 21. lit an article describing the training of tlfe 14-years-old Prince of trie Asturias, . King Alfonso’s heir, the “Heraldo” states that he is being brought up in the atmosphere of home life that his parents love. Queen \ ictoria, as well as King Alfonso, dislikes all forms o. ceremonial, and the Prince is being trained as simply as possible. He lias many tutors, with whom he visits factories, dockyards, engineering works, newspaper offices, museums, and all centres of cultuie and activity. The customs of the Spanish Court have prevented him from entering a university or military college, but he will probably be sent latei on to a military academy. Tlie Prince is fair with blue eyes, and for this reason he lias trie appearance of a “foreigner,” for Spain is a country of dark-eyed people. But those who speak of bis foreign appearance maintain that lie is thoroughly Spanish. He speaks English and French fluently and takes an active interest in science and art.
