POLLARD'S PICTURES.

A BROAD WEST' ENGLISH DRAMA TO-NIGHT.

In “The Romance of a Movie Star” at the Princess Theatre to-night Violet Hopson, who is considered the foremost English screen artist to-day, relates in ' graphic manner the story of an actress’ rise from obscurity to fame, embracing the joys and sorrows of a. player’s life, and shewing that the players behind the screen are just as human as those who. sit and watch the story unfold on the screen itself. Unusually interesting, is; the fact that most of the production, shows the actual working lof a studio and the lives of the film actors,, while woven into the plot is an enthralling lovq. romance, with many highly dramatic situations. It rises to an exciting climax when.the star shields a foolish society girl at the risk of her own good name, finally ending when everything hav been cleared up. to satisfaction with the hero and heroine in the time honoured ‘clinch.’ Stewart Rome iis typically a British type, and gives an : altogether attractive portrayal of ai ■manly young Briton. Violet Hopson’s • characterisation, of the star who experiences numerous trials, and. gallantly shields a girl at the risk of hdr own good name, being subsequently rewarded with tiie loss of the love of her fiancee, though only temporarily, pending a better understanding, is remarkable, and the star receives splendid support from Stewart Rome in the role of a manl vvoung Englishman who is a 1 scion of the aristocracy. The latest Gaumont Graphic and. a two-reel comedy “The ■ Simp” will support this big attraction to-night.
