LATE LOCALS.

The public are reminded that the last opportunity to enter exhibits for the A. and P. Show which will he held oil the Racecourse on Wednesday next, is Saturday next. Townspeople should help the Society in its efforts to revive the annual show, and ample provision lias been made in tliis directum in the borne industries section. Some Japanese who were visiting Albert Park in Auckland recently were very active in collecting many of the fallen seeds from the different trees growing there. AVliat seemed to trouble them most was to get the exact names of the trees from which the seeds came (relates the “Herald”). I They were ready with paper and pencil so that the name might be correctly spelled, and when some inexperienced person could not supply the information required the immobility of the Japs gave way, and they assumed a look of undisguised incredibility, for they said even school children knew 1 the names of the trees in Japan. When they were told that they should not take tide seeds without permission they said that was very foolish, and they did not believe it because they bad seen many Japanese trees in New Zealand, and some British people must have gone into their gardens and brought the seeds out here. Going from tree to tree in many parts of the park, the Japanese shouted a knowledge of where each came from, which clearly demonstrated their great powers of observation.
