PALESTINE TO-DAY.
LORD ISLINGTON’S VIEWS. LONDON ,Feb. 15
Tho “Daily Mail” states that Lord Islington completely agrees with Lord Northcliffe’s statements regarding Palestine. “As far as I can see,” says Lord Islington, “our authority is only maintained by a military occupation costing £2,500,000 yearly. AVe hare created a buffer State of disorder in a vital spot.
“If the disorderly elements get tho upper hand tho country will he a. breeding ground of discontent for tho whole East, and a disseminator of trouble for every country in which the Mnhommedan meets the Christian and the Jew. “It is difficult to suggest a remedy, unless a. representative Government in which Arabs and Christians have a fair share is left to settle the matter for themselves.” In the statements referred to. Lord Northcliffe told representatives of the Egyptian newspapers that as a strong supporter of Zionist ideals he was profoundly disappointed at the violent methods of the Zionist extremists. “I do not hesitate to predict further grave trouble,” ho said, “unless the moderate Zionists through nit the world check the extremists. My impression is that the country is in the unhappitst condition, and the British Parliament, Press, and taxpayer should insist- on a complete investigation.”
