ANONYMOUS LETTERS.

PARIS, Jan. 3. Ope death and one internment in a , lunatic asylum is the result of a four , years’ mysterious campaign of anonymous letter-writing in the little country town of Tulle, in the Correze Department of France. The latest victim of these aconsations of immorality and vice which are being spread through tho town is M. Gibert, clerk to the town council. He was one of the principal people attacked in these letters, and lie became so distressed that ho went out of his mind and has just died insane. For four years the unknown author of these unsigned letters has been sowing suspicion between husband and wife, casting doubts on the honesty of employees, and making reflections on the chastity of women. Police investii gations have failed to trace the culprit, i though from the familiarity he shows j with the private lives of prominent citi- | zens of Tulle lie is apparently a fellowcitizen.

At a meeting of tile town council yesterday tho strongest appeals were made for the detection of the writer, who, it was stated, is poisoning the fife of the town. An immediate subscription was opened, which it is hoped will yield £2OO within a few days, to offer as a reward for evidence leading to the conviction of the individual.
