POLLARD’S PICTURES.

THE PICTURE SENSATION OF THE

YEAR—MONDAY

On Monday next Pollards are screening the much discussed picture “The yictim,” featuring Robert T. Haines, who plays the part of Fatlfer Cosgrove, priest and hero. The picture has had a remarkable run through Australia and New Zealand, and there is nothing shown in this picture that even the most sensitive can take exception to. The performance of Robert T. Haines in the role of the parish priest Father Cosgrove, in “The Victim,” is one that will long be remembered. Extraordinarily thrilling and gripping in intensity is this story of a man’s faith to his vows, facing a dishonourable death in the electric chair, tound guilty of murder, when he has only to speak to save himself. The interest rises in a perfect whirl of increasing speed, till the climax is reached a few moments before the time set for the execution. Truth is best told by example, and no finer example of fidelity to an ideal will be found than this pic. ture propounds. “The Victim” is being shown by arrangement with the Catholic Art Association, who produced it, and made an unqualified success of their job. Pathe’s latest Gazette and a clever comedy entitled “Beat it,” featuring Snookv the monkey, will complete a fine programme. The Orchestra will play several new operatic selections.
