STATEMENT BY LLOYD GEORGE. LONDON, Feb. 28. Mr Lloyd George, in tkfe House' of Commons, said that the protectorate was no longer a satisfactory form of relationship between the British Em pire and Egypt, but at present there was no Government in Egypt which could give adequate safeguards for lm- v . penal interests. Therefore the British, Government had decided to proceed b\ a unilateral declaration. In this course they iiad Lord Allehby’s whole-hearted support. Martial Law would be abolished in Egypt as soon as ail Act of Indemnity had been final clause of the' declaration, four matters were absolutely reserved to the discretion of the British Imperial Gov- - eminent: Firstly, security of communication ; secondly, defence against all foreign aggression; thirdly, tip protection of foreign interests in. Egypt; and fourthly, the protection of miner!ties in the Soudaii.-
