BOWLING.

It will be remembered that early last year the Hokitika Bowling Club held a very successful gala day with the oh- j ject of assisting to raise funds to reduce the substantial overdraft that is so ser-, iously affecting the general financial ' welfare of tho Club. It has been decid- 1 ed to hold another gala day with the same object in view, and the date lias now been fixed for Saturday, March Uth. The lady supporters of the Club have taken the movement in hand, and propose holding a stall on the bowling green on the afternoon in question, when there will be, besides competitions for bowling, drawing and driving, similar competitions for golfers, notably putting, and for croquet players, which proved so interesting and successful on the last occasion. Of course the cup that cheers, but does not inebriate will be also provided, a nimble sixpence being the charge thereof. Any donations of kind, will be gladly received by the ladies or any member of the Club. The Club caters in no small measure for visitors to the town, and well deserves tho substantial support of the townspeople, which they confidently look forward to receive. The present gala should prove a very attractive and successful one, if all work heartily towards tho object in view.

The Hokitika Bowling Club will send a four rink team to Greymouth on Saturday/ next to play a game with the Greymouth Club for the Ballinger Buckles. Any members unable to go are requested to advise the Secretary.
