AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. THE GAPE STRIKE, A DYNAMITE OUTRAGE. (Received This Day at 8 a m.) CAPETOWN, Feb. 27. The worst dynamite outrage during the strike is reported from the City Deep mine, where five explosions dccurred in an attempt to destroy the whole electric system, hut although some damage was done, the desired effect was not attained. Violence on the reef is increasing and police reinforcements are arriving and the recruiting of special constables is proceeding satisfactorily. A crisis has arisen at the Munnpal power station owing to the decision of the Council to use what is saul to be black coal. The Federation has issued orders that if this is done, the men must refuse to handle it and strike.

POLICE AND COMMANDO CLASH

CAPETOWN, Feb. 27

The Ifirst encounter of the strike between police and strikers, has occurred. A troop of police sighted a commando at Boksburg during the early morning. The commando showed fight, and ,e police charged with batons. A fierce hand to hand conflict ensued, uith injuries on both sides. Klinvate commando was then reinforced by a Bloemfontein commando while another roop of police appeared and went in wil i batons to help their comrades. Details are lacking, hut the police say both commandos arc now mostly casualties, hut the police have also a number of casualties.
