AUCKLAND, I’eb. 27. [ At the Methodist Conference, the proposal to erect a Theological College was referred to a special cbmmitte'e to consider tne tenure of tlife site. Rey J. H. Simohds. PrihHpal of MeslSy. Training College, reported on the arrangements for the renibval of that college to Paerata, which is expected to he accomplished this year. It is expected to open I ,the new school; with 40 hoys, native and European, arid ift a few years to accommodate 80. In vi:w of the financial position, it-** would 'be- necessary to. charge fees for the tuition, if the college is to pay its way. Rev. Simons wa s re-appointed for two years. The Conference was addressed by Sister Maude Coleman, of the Wesley Deaconesses’ Institution, England, emphasising the wide scope of women’s work in large cities. The President ; stated that as the best young m e n were needed for the ministry, so the best young women weie required for deaconesses.
Tt was resolved that Ministers be requested to bring the claims of the deaconesses’s work before the young women of the Church. The Conference decided' to tender, through the Governor-General, hearty congratulations to Princess Mary on the occasion of her marriage. On passing the resolution, the Conference sang a verse of the National Anthem. Reports of the orphanages were received. Owing to the establishment of an orphanage at Masterton during the year, the North Island orphanage will now be known as Mount 'Albert Orphanage. Additional accommodation has been obtained at Mount Albert by the purchase of a large house adjoining the orphanage, giving room for 2o inmates, Masterton Children’s Home has been erected during the year, at a v cost of £9750, being one of the finest in the Dominion. Rev Grainger Hargreaves, of England, described it as a magnificent institution, up-to-date .in _ every wav, and one of which the Church can well be proud, Eighty-five children are being cared for in the three orphanages. The extension hi progress and contemplated will provide for about 30 more. stations. The first draft of stations, was adopted. The following are the new appointments :
