KOKATAHI SPORTS.

Kokatahi was en fete on Wednesday last, on the occasion of tho Swimming Carnival and Sports gathering. The weather was ideal, the committee most energetic in getting off the various events, and the grounds most suitable for such an event. The committee feel most grateful to Air W. Diodrichs, who, in a sportsmanlike manner, placed his property entirely at the disposal of the' committee, also to Airs Grahom, who did likewise for the evening’s entaimnent. The fine trophies present by E. C. Tooliey, Mrs H. -Jones, A. and A. Stores ,J. King, Al. Houston (all of Hokitika) were received and much appreciated by the committee.

The events which caused the most interest during the day were the two tug-o’-war—Kokatahi v. Koitcrangi (men), won by Kokatahi, and Kokatahi v. Koiterongi (ladies), won by Koitcrangi. Tho Relay Race, teams of 4, Kokatahi and Koitcrangi, open to members of the football team. This event was a very fine exhibition, and was won by Kokatahi. The Trot for local horses drew quite a number of entries ,and great excitement prevailed over the event. It was won easily !l>y Hooliston’s Ruatapu ridden bv Miss Harcourt. The swimming, as usual, drew the crowd. Some very fine exhibitions of diving were given by the Hokitika sporte. The two-mile road race (trophy given by E. O. Gills’ Swimming (18 or under) - Alaise Duncan 1, Vera Ross2. Girls’ Swimming (12 or under) Madge Morel 1, Vera Marshall 2.
