I CONSPIR ACY CASE. . ' SYDNEY, Feb 26. George Hunt (cabled January 12th), Frederick Hunt, His brother, and George Walter Walters, an ex-engin-eer, were charged at the Barry Police Court with conspiracy to defraud a professional punter of £SOO. The prosecutor said he had a tale to tell more like “The Arabian Nights” than every day life. When George Hunt, in June 1919 issued a circular asking for money to work a racing system, an avalanche of remittances poured in from all parts of the country, at the rate of two thousand daily. People sold estates, and mortgaged properties in order to participate. Some ceased work on the strength of their invou-mcuti. Hunt was'offering £l7 weekly for every £IOO invested. These interest payments were made for two or three months, then stopping. All classes of society were included in the victims.

As a result of a ineleb which started at a charity fair, a crowd of 300 fought ,and kicked a dozen policemen who eventually dispersed tlte -crowd with batons. Three police were injured. Several arrests were made.

A proposal by Government to reduce the salaries of public servants lias aroused a storm of protest and the formation of one big union of Government employees including railwaymcn and teachers to fight any reduction, w!m’may lie suggested.
A HOLD-UP
SYDNEY, Feb. 27
The departure of the Largo Bay was delayed for some hours on Saturday n'f'ht in consequento of the Union contending the crew should he drawn from Australian organisations. The Union ordered several of the crew of the Moreton Bay to leave the ship, because they had not signed for repatriation and full pay.
AIR HUGHES REPLIES
SYDNEY, Feb. 27
Mr Hughes replying la Air Guallctt states the latter is a failure, lie is tern peril mentally unfitted for any constructive work, lie quotes extracts Irom Guallctt’s reports to the effect that the Common wealth did its share towards the success of immigrations ami also that three States. New South Wales, Queensland and South -Australia were trifling with the work. Air Hughes added that Air Theodore wanted an amount of money from the Commonwealth to develop the Barnett scheme, hut- lie refused to submit a concrete scheme and the Commonwealth accordingly refused to advance the money to he spent as Theodore 1 liked.
