POLLARD’S PICTURES.
CONNY TALMADGE AND LARRY SEMON.
TO-NIGHT.
To-night at the Princess Theatre, Pollards are presenting a big laughter programme, when Conny Talmadge will be seen in her latest comedy drama “Good Referenoes,” in six reels by The First National Coy., and the king of laughter makers, Larry Semop, in a. special comedy by the Vitagrnph Coy. “The Rent Collector,” the latest Pathe Gazette, will be included in this big programme. Wha,t is a little thing like references, says Constance Talmadge, in V Good References,” as she steps into a peach of a job with an old maid, moneyed and religious. From her previous- state the day before, moneyless, jobless, referencesless, tuckerless, it was quite a step to her present state of affluence -that is, to an,\ other gill but the saucy Constance, but to liter ft was of course just a matter of personality. An ordinary girl might weep and moan, but not Constance—shr gets out and hustles—through five reals of gurgles and giggles. Then, as if there is not enough comedy in a Constance Talmadge comedy, there is Larry I Sernon’s latest funnio ily, “The Rent Collector,” on the same programme. A veritable feast of laughter is provided in those two pictures. The orchestra will play a selected programme.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY
Commenting on a performance at Christchurch, the “Press” says:—A packed house greeted Annette Kellerman and the Tivoli Follies at the Opera House last night, when a complete change of programme was presented. Miss Kellerman, whoso piquant and vivacious personality permeated the whole entertainment, again appeared in numerous roles, and her entry was always the signal for a storm of applause. It might he said of her that public favour was attracted bjy her reputation and captured by her merits, for her success was instantaneous auj maintained. After a clever exbibtion of toe-dancing, and in response to insistent requests, she repeated her “Oriental Dance,” and the weird and sinuous movements gripped the deeply interested spectators. In one of the latest editions of the Fox Trot, danced with one of the “ Dancing Donnellys,” Miss Kellerman was also seen to advantage. Her song, “ The Little Tin Soldier,” in winch she was assisted by two lo*al children, was accorded a very popular reception, the pretty, natural acting of the little tots making a special appeal to the audience. Miss Keflerman’S wire-walking exhibition was also clever; but it was in her aquatic performances that she achieved her fullest measure of glory. Miss Kellerman seemed even more at home in the water than on terra firma, and the fascinated beholders could, for hours, have watched her disporting herself gracefully and artfully in her crystal tank, with a delight amounting almost to rapture.
The supporting company again did themselves ample justice. Miss Penney’* fme contralto voice earned popular favour in a couple of well-chosen songs; and Brightie and Carlvon, singers and patter artists, were in particularly good form, and they had the merit of being intensely breezy, seemingly themselves enjoying their turn as thoroughly as did the audience. Martini, a juggler and tumbler, fully deserved the generous measure of applause which he received. The box plan is open at Misses Mclntosh’s.
