FAREWELL AT RIMU.

(From a correspondent). The little township of Rimu was thronged with people from lar and near last night, being the occasion* of the farewell social and presentation to Mrs T. Kvenden and Son. Tt was like one of thet older times of the happy days gone by. The UublVe Hall was literally picked with friends of the guests and it spoke well for the high esteem in which they were held by the residents of Rimu and district. A. Clifton Esq. presided, and' at 10 o’clock Mr I- Evenden, Mrs Evenden and Master Frank Evon.den were invited, on the stave, amidst a burst of applause. Mr Clifton in a few well chosen words said t’> district regretted very much to know that the Kvenden family were about to take their departure from amongst them, and lie had much pleasure in pi e- | senting Mrs Evenden and son with a. well-filled purse of sovereigns as a mark of respect to their departing guests. Master Jack Ryan presented Mrs Evenden with a beautiful bouquet. Mr T. Evenden feelingly thanked the Chairman and all kind frVi-nds for the very handsome present that they had made to his good wife and son. Cheers were then given every one standing and singing “For they are jolly good fellows.”

Dancing then went on in full swing till 12 o’clock when the Chairman nsko-} one and all to sing “Auld Lang Syne” because some wished to retire to their homes. Afterwards everyone made up their minds to enjoy themsolvcs. The music was supplied by < Knowles family and was of a: very high* class. They were assisted by Mr Albert Lawn and other friends. Items' to the programme were constituted by Miss hi. Ayson, Mr M. O’Neill and Air Aldridge and others. The hall was beautifully decorated by the Indies and there was a plentiful supply ot refreshments, everyone hav'nu r jolly time till 2 o’clock when God Save the King brought to a. close one of the most enjoyable evening ever spent in Rimu.
