Gaston Vidal, Undersecretary of State for Technical Education, 1 tetter known as the French Minister for Sports. M. V idal recently denounced the growth of professionalism in French football, and protested agajinst the excessive value that the Rugby Federation placed on revenue from games. He said that the sport was degenerating into a- spectacle. Some great matches were circus parades. M. Vidal’s frankness annoyed the French clubs, which called on him to justify his defamatory language. M. Vidal replied that lie had spoken as’ Secretary for State. After a secret ballot the Federation expelled nim by 195 votes to 179. It is noteworthy that M. Reichol. vice-president of the French I<oothall Association, has just resigned as a protest against the association allowing clubs to play against English professionals.”]
