H.M.A.S Melbourne’s Visit

AYELLINGTON, Feb. la

The Governor-General to-day telegraphed as follows to Rear-Admiral Dumaresq, commanding H.M.A.S. Alolbourne:—-*

“ At the moment of your vessel leaving New Zealand, 1 assure you of me great pleasure the visit has given myself, the Government, and the people of the Dominion. The presence of the flagship of your Navy, the example of your officers and men, and their efficiency and discipline, will he of great benefit in cementing the bonds uniting the Commonwealth'ami the Dominion, Warmest good wishes. The Admiral replied, heartily thanking Lord Jellicoe for his kind message, and expressing the pleasure of himself and all under his command at the visit to the Dominion. Ho looked forward to seeing the New Zealand flagship in Australian waters, and to another visit l ore in the future.

To the Prime Minister, Admiral Dumaresq telegraphed how deeply the ship’s company had enjoyed the privilege of visiting the Dominion, where they had received much kindness and hospitality. “ I earnestly hope,” he added, “ that it may he possible for your flagship to visit Australia at itlie first opportunity-. 1 can assure you that they will receive a hearty welcome from all in the Australian fleet.” Air Massey replied : “ It is a great pleasure for the Government to know that yourself and officers of the ship’s company pnjoyed their visit to the Dominion. His Excellency has already transmitted the good wishes of the Government to you, and if it is possible in the future for our .flagship to visit Australia, it will give the Government much pleasure to arrange accordingly.”
