NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. [by TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. • In glorious weather ,six life saving teams competed for the Nelson Shield contest, held at Lval’i Bay in the presence of a large number of spectators. The Governor-General Was. present and ho complimented the swimmers on their splendid performances, especially Mips Gwitha Sliand on her world’s record breaking efforts. Results: ~, , Land Drill, Lyall Bay 1, Maranui 2, Canterbury 3. At life saving in the surf, some splendid performances were put up, especially by the visiting teams. The Judge spoke highly of their general bearing and equipment, and complimented New Zealand instructors on the almost perfect efficiency of some teams. Results:—New Brighton Ik, 140, Canterbury 138, Maranui A, 135, New Brighton A, 129, Lyall Bay, 129, Hawkes Bay 123, Maranui R, 101.
