LONDON, Dec. 21 Lighted up at midnight by a brilliant and' mysterious white light, then shaken by a succession of thunder-like rumbles, and finally startled by a shrill whistling noise, the small Lincolnshire town of Holbeaeh had a curiously uncanny night oil Sunday. Describing the affair a resident said: “I was walking home, when the sky lit up with an intense white light that would have made the reading of the smallest type possible. 1 could see every detail of the buildings, and the shadows thrown about the place were more pronounced than in summer. It seemed that a full minute elapsed and then there was a noise as though a thousand whistles were being blown. It died away gradually, but was followed within a few seconds by a rumbling sound which seemed to shake everything and which resembled very powerful thunder. The last sound was like a dull thud.” Pbliee-Sergeant Ghorbv said: “The whistling was like a lot of incendiary bombs dropping. The rumbling noise was like thunder, but the light was most curious. It was powerful and white and we could not trace it to any object in the sky. One of our constables on duty reported that Boston Church, 12 miles away, could Ir> seen quite plainly.”
