ROSS NEWS.

An unfortunate accident, occurred on Friday last to Arnold Upjohn, 14 years of age, son of Mr Albert (jpjohn. He was setting fire to a gorse Push when an explosion, presumably caused by a detonator in the bush occurred. On Monday tie was removed to the Westland Hospital, where it was found necessary to remove an eye. The accident is all the more unfortunate in that the father went into the Hospital on the same day to undergo a serious operation. General Sir Andrew Russell, K.C.AI. G., will be visiting Ross on Saturday next, when he will be entertain&d by the Returned Soldiers and! Borough Councillors at a banquet. A Swimming Carnival has also been arranged to take place on Saturday next, at the Coronation Baths. A good programme has been arranged, and a successful day is anticipated. Mr T. G. Shilton, has recently arrived to take up home missionary work in tli6 Presbyterian Church fin the Ross and South Westland district.
