REUTER’S TELEGRAMS. i DELHI, Feb. 6. | It is reported from Allahabad that a, mob of two thousand Extremist volun-: teers and villagers attacked the policej station at Chauriohaura and killed the, entire staff comprising two sub-inspec-l ftps'and fifteen constables. The bodies! were stripped and burned in the sta-7 lion buildings which were destroyed. GOVERNMENT'S REPLY TO GANDHI. DELHI, February 6. The Government has issued a communique in response to Gandhi s let r, to the Viceroy. The Government points onit tn, t , Gandhi’s demands include the release of all prisoners and the Government to refrain from interference with all. extremist activities, while intimating the intention to continue seditious piopaganda, and merely offering to port-, pone aggressive civil disobedience until the imprisoned offenders had an opportunity of reviewing the situation.. In the same .paragraph it is poin d, out that Gandhi reaffirms the unalter- ; able character of the extremists de-, mands. . The communique declares that tn e choice lies between dangerous lawlessness and civilised government. Mass civil disobedience will be fraught with such dangers that it must he met with sternness and severity. The communique ends by appealing to loyal citizens to support any measure ’the Government ma y see fit to adopt.
