WANGANUI WAR MEMORIAL. WANGANUI, Jim. 31. Some months ago, following a public meeting, various local bodies appointed delegates to select a site and the form of a memorial to men of the town, suburbs and district who took part in the war. A memorial token and hall of memories was to be placed on Durie Hill, from which it would be seen many miles around. It was decided upon an objection raised by a section of the public, who wanted a small memorial in Queen’s Park that a plebiscite be taken to-day. The Queen’s Park proposal received 987 votes as against 487 for the Durie Hill site. Something like 7000 voters were eligible.
