NEAR EAST PEACE MOVES. CONSTANTINOPLE, Dec. 12. It is reported here that an. attempt is being made to ascertain the attitude of MusapJna Kemnl, the Turkish Nationalist leader, to the possibility of peace between Greece and Turkey. The Kemialist Minister of National Defence lias been at Ineboli, the Black Sea port, .where, it isi said, ho received Allied communications. He has return ed to Angora, the Kemnl is t capital, for consultation.
£27-A-PINT BRANDY. PARIS, Dec. 12
Selling brandy to the Grown Princo of Siam at about £27 a pint is the charge against a Nancy hotel-keeper. The Prince of Siam stayed a month at this hotel, and among the items on his bill were a number of small glasses of brandy at £1 12s each, a rate which works out at about £27 per pint.
KILL IN THE LARDER. LONDON, December 12. A fox was killed on Saturday by the Meynell hounds in the larder of Wychnorhouse, Burton-on-Tront, a few yardfe from where the pack had met a few hours earlier. Found on the outskirts of the park, hte fox made for Dunstall, some miles away and then turning ran right back t'o Wiycjhnor, and,' dashing into the kitchen, ran past the scared maids to the larder, followed by hounds, who promptly made an end of him.
WOMEN SMUGGLERS. BRUSSELS, Dec. 12. The German frontier authorities have arerstod a number of Belgians who were attempting to pass the frontier with German goods in spite of the regulation forbidding strangers to purchase them. A Brussels woman was caught with several pairs of slippers, stockings and spare parts for motor-cars. She was condemned to 3 months’ imprisonment and fined £35; two women from Liege tried to cross with tinned ppods; each j wn?i fined £lO and sent to prison for j a day. Two other women bought shoes n.nd other wearing apparel, and each ! was sentenced to 3 months’ imprison- i ment nnd fined £2O. <
