A touching tribute was paid this afternoon by officials and residents of Nice to the remains of a telegraph operator, Francois Thaon, who was shot and killed on Monday when giving chase to Riaboff, the alleged assailant of Mme. Franck, a rich woman of Russian birth, who was attacked in her flat and struck on the head with a hammer. Numerous wreaths, sent by the municipality, postal authorities, newspaper proprietors, and others, completely covered the coffin. The prefect presented to Thaon’s widow the gold medal struck by the Government for bestowal on such occasions as a mark of appreciation. Meanwhile, a pretty young girl, described as also Russian, has been arrested by the police. It is alleged she was the mistress of Riaboff, and that it was to set.'her up in business that the crime was committed.
