CIGARETTES OR CHILD. NEW YORK, Dec. 2. Either she must give u[> cigarette smoking or relinquish the custody of fier six-years-old child. These alternatives are placed before Mrs Adeline Lee, wife of the house surgeon of the Memorial Hospital, Newhaven, Connecticut, by a Supreme Court judge. Mrs Lee is suing her husband for divorce. On the'issue of the custody of the child the judge said he did not propose to discuss the ethics of smoking for women, and added: “But expert testimony in this case demonstrates whiat common sense affirms: that a child the age of this one will fare better if brought up in an atmosphere uncontaininated by smoke from cigarettes. *Mfs' Lee admitted that her consumption of cigarettes averages between fifty and sixty a day.
