THE FORESTRY RAID.

BILL PASSED LAST NIGHT. INDECENT HASTE SHOWN. A private telegram received hero this morning stated that the Forests Bill, containing the new clause quoted yesterday was submitted to the House last night about 9 o’clock and passed. The amended Bill was not circulated, nor wad it placed on the day’s Order Paper. The indecent haste shown in the passing of the Bill, combined with the belated manner in which the new clause was inserted, suggests that the Government must have felt there wag something to hide. The position as now presented reveals a breach/ of faith on the part of the Prime Minister who has not made the investigation into the matter he promised to do. Evidently the influence of Sir F. D. Bell considerably outweighs the claims of the industry and the needs of tho district. 1
