LATE LOCALS.

The Rev A. C. La wry, of Christchurch, will deliver a lecture on “Maorilaud in the brave days of old,” in the Methodist Church on Tuesday evening, at 7.45. Musical programme and supper. All invited; collection. Advt. The Christchurch “Press” of Saturday stated: Once again the hall proved to,', small to accommodate all those desiring to see the lantern slides of beautiful Westland last evening. The Y.M.C'.A. Concert Hall was full to overflowing long before the advertised time of starting. Mr R. A. Kenner, in a brief speech, expressed a hope that the lectures which bad proved so popular would fulfil their purpose—the promotion of an- even better understanding between the provinces of Canterbury and Westland. The evening’s entertainment was duo to Mr Charles Bcken, who had kindly consented to show the slides again. The demonstratoin was then proceeded with, Mr Kenner giving the names of the places shown. The beautiful Otira Gorge historic Hokitika, with its glorious sunsets, and the far-famed Franz Josef Glai cier were revealed to a highly apprei native audience. The general opinion 1 1 is that this collection of slides is proi bnblv the best that lias been shown m i Christchurch. It is interesting to note j that Dr Teielielmann has a series Ten line with the country south of which should be equally 9 ’ well worth seeing.
