SALARIES CUT.
MR MASSEY’S CONTENTIONS. [BA TELEGRAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION ( WELLINGTON, January 20. In his speech on retrenchment, Mr Massey told the House it would save £4,5000,000, with £1,500,000 from other expedients. He defended the highsalaried reduction rates by saying they had carried no bonus, but paid income Itnx. If all salaries ever £IOOO a year were taken they would only produce £550,000. Air Massey indicates the Cabinet will fake all responsibility for dealing with objections, some of which had shown anomalies.
