• [nY TEI.ECJUAPH —I’liU IMUSSS ASSOCIATIONJ WELLINGTON, Jan 19. THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2.J0 p.m. The Imprest Supply Bill No 3 was put through all stages and passed. The Shops and Offices Bill was put through the committee stage with amendments and was subsequently passed.
The Lean Companies Bill was committed and reported with amendments. Sir F. Bell moved! the committal of the Forests Bill, on which motion, a. d - bate took place which' was adjourned on the motion of Hon Mclntyre. The Country' Telephone Lines Amendment and Factories Bill were pul through the final stages and passed. The Council rose at 4.52 p.m. THE HOUSE. i The House met at 2.30 p.m. : In the House, Mr Massey moved the second reading of the Public Expenditure Adjustment Bill, which embodied the retrenchment proposals of the of the Government.
WELLINGTON, Jan 20. The debate was continued all night. At 6.30 o’clock this morning, Mr Fraser moved that the Bill be read that day six months. After an hour’s debate on the question, the amendment was lost by 61 to 6.
The motion that" the Bill he read a second time was carried by 60 to 6.
Mr Massey announced that in order to (five time for consideration he did no propose to take !he committee stage till next week. Mr Atmore moved that the Bill be referred to Public Accounts Committee. This was negatived by 44 to 24. * The House rose at 8.10 -a.m. till 2.30 p.m.
