QUESTION OF COMPULSORY LA'qiN. AUCKLAND, January 19. At the N.Z. University Senate, a motion that test Latin be a compulsory subject for the matriculation examination for candidates for the B.A. degree was defeated by 19 votes to 9. The Chancellor opposed the motion, saying that he was sorry thi s proposal should be brought up year after year.
