The imports were 101,088 tons and exports 34,378 tons. All were records. The previous years figures were £21,113-5, 95,712 tons, and 28,242 tons. The shipping tonnage entering was 220,393 nett, - against 152509 for the previous year. BOY AND GIRL DROWNED. DUNEDIN, January 19. The police have further advice of the drowning -of two children Mary and John Small, thirteen and ten respectively in Ta-ieri river near Longford on Tuesday. Thomas Garrett-, while working in a garden, heard a cry for help and saw a horse and gig in the current. A few yards behind the girl appeared, apparently being washed into the willows. Garrett shouted to catch the willow branch but the horse and gig cot into a whirlpool and went down drawing the girl .under. Nobody appears to have seen the boy.
