Mr Matthews concluded his observations with a reference to the coal and iron deposits of New Zealand. “In these alone lies an asset of incalculable worth,” he said. “ The proximity of the iron ore deposits to tfic coal fields and seaboard are favourable to the economic development of an non and steel industry. The Dominion eontains everything required for the manufacture of iron and steel, and in ferroalloys, there being extensive and wide-ly-distributed deposits of chromium ore, managanese ore, tungsten, tantalum and graphite. AVolfram, one of the. principal ores of tungsten, is widely distributed.”
