(Received This Dav at 8.30 a.m.) CAPETOWN, Jan 17. The Conference was continued on the coal dispute and: a settlement is expected to-morrow. The miners will probably resume in one or two days time. There is a hopeful feeling that the gold miners will resume early.. Meanwhile the first week of the strike cost £630,000. There have been some lively scenes in East Rand district and a strike procession at Benon on a large scale, but no disorder.

Finest sorts were in sellers favour and others full rates. Cross breds were unchanged. Yorkshire and continent were competing strongly, and Germany was more active than last week.

He attributed bis failure to the loss in his public house and betting transactions. He lost £6OO when Felton defeated him and won £IOOO when he beat Felton in Australia.
