THE BOWLING MATCH. (Contributed.) It, was a summer evening, The wheelwright’s work was done, He had finished making barrows, He rested in the sun. His grandson asked him why they lost And why the points were few. “ We’d won,” he said, “ if I’d been skip Instead of number two.” We all ret out for Greymouth, Sixteen good men and true, And each one talked of what they’d done, And what they ought to do. There were carpenters and bankets, And some good bowlers too, But u Father” he was left at homo, To fix the weekly brew.

The match began, and eacli one tried To do bis level best; One could not say that any bowl Was better than the rest. Some were short and some were long, Some rested out a few, “ But only think, if I’d been skip, Instead of number two.”

The gardener stuck to Kitty, The wheelwright played too strong. The banker said, “ We lie the shot, Ami its my bowl for a song.” But the grocer said.quite audibly I’ll win the box of tricks. He drove like fun, knocked out his own, And the other side lay six.

The last heads came, the play grew keen The skips were breathing hard, Two points to tie and three to win Was listed on the card. The ranger failed the paper man He got blocked up in bis run, And after all the bowls were played Grevrnouth had won by one.

The wheelwright took some more cold tea. The banker made a speech, > The grocer turned it off in song, And each of them |damed each. “ I’ll sell nry bowls,” one man did cry. Says the wheelwright ‘‘That won’t do,” We’ll win next match if I’m made skip Instead of number two.
